Vaishno Devi Shrine Board plants 20 lakh saplings

In order to restore the greenery in the Trikuta Hills and the regions around the pilgrimage route, the Vaishno Devi Shrine Board will plant 20 lakh saplings which will be a major step towards their afforestation programme. These saplings will be planted during the ensuing monsoon season. Effective measures to keep check on forest fires will also be taken.

Different species of saplings will be planted, including Bamboos, Arjuna, Bauhinia species, Cassia Fistula, Erithrina Indica, and Bougainvillea etc. which are known to be great soil binder species and will reduce soil erosion in the region.

The Shrine Board’s Annual Greening Action Plan incorporates greening activities, watershed management and forest fire management. The plan includes various engineered and non-engineered steps to prevent soil erosion, landslides and forest fires.
